Gutter Cleaning Options

Gutter cleaning is one of those time-consuming chores that most home owners put off as long as possible. But sooner or later, the job has to be done. There are options that can make the job go faster, keep you safer and eliminate the task all-together. You just need to know what options are available, then choose the one that’s right for you.

Professional Gutter Cleaners

Gutter cleaning is a job that someone has to do and if you don’t want to do it yourself, hire someone to do it for you. Ask around before deciding who to hire for the task. You want an established company with a good reputation and solid recommendations from satisfied customers. Ask family, friends, neighbors and co-workers who they recommend for the job. Their recommendations will help you decide who to hire, and who not to hire, for the job.

Install Gutter Guards

This option will prevent the need for ever having to clean your home gutters again. Installing gutter guards (or having them installed by a professional) will prevent debris from going into the gutters. If it doesn’t go in, it doesn’t have to come out.

Power Tools

If you decide to clean your gutters yourself, a power tool will be your best friend. You can blow, suck or power your gutters clean with any number of powers tools that are on the market. These unique gutter cleaning tools attach to other power tools, like a shop vac or leaf blower, and allow you to stand on the ground while cleaning your guttering system. If you already own a power tool or two, buying an attachment is an affordable option to get the job done.

Hand Tools

This old school way is the least expensive and it works. All you need is a sturdy ladder, some type of scrubbing brush, heavy-duty rubber gloves, a bucket to suspend from the ladder for placing all the debris you’ll remove and a water hose. It’s also a good idea to take a can of insect repellent and a stick up the ladder with you just in case you encounter flying insects or small rodents.

Looj, The Gutter Cleaning Robot

iRobot, the company that gave us Roomba to automatically clean our carpet now give us Looj, the gutter cleaning robot. Looj is not cheap and you will have to watch it while it cleans the gutters, but it does all the labor for you.
